One of the things that I like about the Lego City themed sets is that you can build a whole city with everything that a real city would have. Not all real cities will have everything, but the Lego City can: from a harbor, to an airport; from a space center to an arctic outpost; and all the usual services such as police, fire and transport.
I have previously done a review of the available train sets, now we are looking at that one missing item – the Lego train station. Although one of the train sets does include a platform, a train station includes everything you would expect to find at a real train station. If you are building a city, you might as well keep it realistic.
Let’s take a look at what this set has to offer.
Lego City Train Station (#60050)
- Suggested age: 5 to 12 years
- Number of pieces: 423
- Number of mini-figures: 5 (conductor, chef, taxi driver and 2 travelers)
- Special items included: 4 straight track pieces and many other items that I will discuss below
- List price: $64.99
- Amazon customer rating: 4.8 / 5
This is another of those sets where all the bases have been covered and there really isn’t anything missing except the train itself. Add this to a train set and you will have a really good railway setup.
Let’s take a look what is included in this set.
The train station is about 19” long and the 4 track pieces extend slightly beyond this length. The platform features many items that you would expect to find in a real train station: a clock, 2 seats, a bicycle and bicycle stand, 2 monitors, 2 security cameras and 2 trash cans. The building itself has a cross-track roof that is not common in many Lego sets.
With the 4 extra track pieces you can already lengthen your existing train track by another 20 inches when you join it in to be able to stop the train at the platform.
There is a taxi and a taxi driver to take the travelers safely to and from the station.
There are steps leading up to the main entrance that has opening glass doors. There is also an ATM, a Lego City shop with Lego City products, a train map, a desk and a cash register.
On the platform you will find a food and drink kiosk that the chef looks after with a cash register, 2 menu signs, a croissant, a pizza, a coffee machine and 4 beverage bottles. Other accessories include a newspaper, a sausage, a conductor sign and a suitcase.
There are many great learning opportunities for the younger children. As they play they can be taught about many aspects of train travel including safety, littering, the use of maps and the functions of the various people. With the number of mini-figures included they will have many opportunities for role-play.
It is designed to pair with the High-Speed Passenger Train Set (#60051) and the 2 sets together make for many play options. It will also combine well with the Cargo Train Set (#60052). Either of the combinations (or all 3) will give the children many hours of play.
Keep in mind that the tracks are from the newer train sets and will not work with the older 9V type of track.
There are always some building sets that seem to stand out from the crowd and this is one of those sets. Do you agree that this is another really good set from Lego?
I would love to hear your opinion, please leave a comment below.
I think my son would love this train set, he was into thomas when he was younger. and he is definitely into his lego’s at the moment. Thanks for the great review.
I know many older children who still enjoy train sets. The great thing about the Lego sets is that you can keep adding on to them. I hope you will be getting it for him 🙂
This set looks great! Though they all seem measly compared to the Lego Christmas tree I saw this year. IF you’re interested I can send you the pic I took. I literally stood there next to the children gaping at this tree, which took 1200 hours to build @_@. Crazy. How long do these sets usually take you to build?
There are some amazing Lego creations out there! This Lego train station set would take about 1 to 2 hours to build, depending on the age and ability of the child. There are also some stickers that they might need help with and will add to the time.
After reading this review, I have to agree with you…nothing is missing in this train station set! I love how educational it is, too. I really think it is important that children learn about safety rules and not littering from a tender age and what better way to do it that by building with Lego pieces? I hope many children got this wonderful set as a Christmas present!

It really is a great set. There are so many options for modern-day children when it comes to educational toys that there really is no excuse for not teaching them the basic life skills at home.
Lego didn’t make themed kits back in my Lego playing days…wish they had. I had a train set and plenty of Lego blocks and would often combine the two. This looks like a great kit! thanks for the review.
They really have come a long way with the variety of sets that they offer. At least there are still some basic sets that need children to use their imagination.
Who doesn’t Love LEGO!
Excellent – one of the favorite toys of all times (young and old)!
Over the years I have seen collectors pay good money for the older sets as well – trains are very big.

Lego is one of those toys that brings out the child in most people. Just one of the reasons why I love buying Lego sets for my kids – I get to play with them too 🙂
This took me back to my childhood! I remember having a western-style jailhouse set once and was obsessed with it… Great review.
Lego bricks have been around for so long that there are many people that remember them from their childhood. It is one of a few toys that actually last and can be passed on to future generations. I have to admit that I like building Lego with my kids – it’s great for relaxing!
I’m sure my young Nephew would love this train station! I’ve never read a review about Lego toys before. You’re doing a great job!
Your site so makes me feel like a child! Yipee!

I am going to be doing reviews of other building toys as well, so keep checking for more ideas for your nephew.
This is really cute! I don’t have any kids of my own, but this looks like just the kind of thing that my young nephews (and their father!) would love…if I could bring myself to give it to them. So the trains from the other sets work with this station, is that right?
Yes, the train station is compatible with the other train sets and the different train track sets. I am sure your nephews and their dad would love a set like this!
Lego never ceases to amaze me. I am blown away by the sophistication that this set offers. I love the way it looks like a real train station! Hats off to the creator because all the details really matter. I mean from the coffee kiosk, to the taxi stand, this city train station set goes all the way!
They really do have a great product line and their designers do a great job. they do well at keeping up with the trends and this helps them to keep the interest of children and adults alike. This sets goes well with the other train sets and also with the Lego City sets.
Awesome! I love legos! Just reading your article is making me want to get them out of the attic and start building! I love the advancement that legos have made. I love this set because for my kids it will be good to see a real life set based on real life and things that they can interact with in real life as well.
This set also gives them lots of play options and they can really get their imagination and creativity working when they think up all the scenarios that they could play with. This set works well with most of the Lego City sets and the other train sets.
