About me

Thanks for stopping by, my name is Lesley.

I am a mother of 3 children, my daughter is a teenager and my 2 boys are still pre-teens. Like most parents, I want the best for my children and I want them to become their best. I want to buy toys that my children will enjoy and that they will learn from, but I don’t want to waste money on toys that don’t last or don’t hold their interest for more than a few weeks.

Some people say that all toys are a waste of money. I don’t agree. There are many toys that I do think are a waste of money, but there are just as many that have great benefits for helping our children learn and develop. In my search for toys that teach and will be played with for a long time to come I have become a fan of building toys.

Unfortunately, even with building toys, I still made some bad decisions and bought building sets that were played with only a few times before they got forgotten in the cupboard. I have learned some lessons about choosing building toys in the process.

With this website I will guide you and give you tips on what to consider with the different types of building sets. There are some amazing building toys on the market that many of us did not have access to as children. From basic building blocks to sets with engines for making models that work, and even robotics sets. There are some cheap sets and some that carry a hefty price tag.

While doing my research into the options available I am also discovering that there are some little-known building sets out there that offer different options to those that are well known. Some of these you will not even see on the shelves of the toy store. My aim is to showcase the different options available and give some information about the sets and what you can expect. At the same time I will be making my wish-list of toys that I want to buy for my children.

I also need your help to make this information more valuable to other people looking at buying building toys for their children. If you have bought any of the sets that I mention, please add a comment and let people know your experience with that set or range. Our children are all different and my opinion, based on observing my children with some of these toys, might not be the same as everyone else’s.

Let’s go and find something to build!

    Lesley,

Thank-you for a trip down memory lane. When my son was growing up, we had Legos in every room of the house, behind doors, under tables, in corners. But he loved making things with these sets. He would focus so well and play for hours. We had Star Wars with all the small pieces and cogs, and many others. Today, he is majoring in Economics and minoring in Philosophy.

I was not aware that the Lego was as old as 1932, 1947. Ole Kirk Christiansen must have been a terrific gentleman.
Have a Happy New Year 2015!
