3 Good Zoob Starter Sets for New Zoob Builders

By | March 8, 2016

Introducing a child to a new type of building toy is great if you choose the right set. The key thing to avoid is getting a set that it small and limiting. They won’t have much fun with a new toy if they can’t do much with it.

If you don’t know these toys, then find out what the Zoob building toys are and how they work.

What are we looking at when choosing a starter set for a child that is new to building with Zoob toys?

In one word – variety!

All of the sets below have the classic Zoob pieces and will work together with any other Zoob sets of the same type. They will not work with the Zoob Junior sets.

Let’s take a look at my top 3 picks that will get your child off to a great start with these building toys.

The Zoob 500 Building Set

This is my top choice because of the variety it offers. This is what you get in this set.

  • 500 classic Zoob pieces (standard size)
  • Instruction guides to build over 40 creations
  • 4 foam building pads
  • oversize storage tub with resealable lid
  • Recommended age: 6 years and older
  • List price: $129.99 (much cheaper on Amazon)

This set is big enough to build some large models. It has enough pieces to allow a family to spend time building together or to keep a small group of children entertained. In my opinion, this is the best set to buy if you are looking for a good basic Zoob set to get started with. On the other hand, if your child already has a Zoob set this is a really great way to expand that collection and give them a whole lot more building options.

The storage tub is large enough to store a few of the smaller models. It also makes it easy to take with on holiday and other outings to keep the children busy.

The instruction guides are a great way of introducing children to a variety of Zoob models. I am sure that they will soon start inventing their own creations once they see what the possibilities are.

These sets are all great for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) learning and help to develop some of those key skills.

Zoob 250 Piece Building Set

This is my second choice and it is still a good option for people with a more limited budget.

  • 250 classic Zoob pieces (standard size)
  • Instruction guides to build over 30 creations
  • Oversize storage tub with resealable lid
  • Recommended age: 6 years and older
  • List price: $79.99 (from about $43 on Amazon)

This set still offers great variety, but will limit the size of the models that can be built as well as the number of smaller models that can be built at the same time.

The storage tub makes it easily portable and easy to pack away.

This set is both a good starter set and a great add-on set to an existing collection.

Zoob 125 Piece Building Set

This 125 piece set is the smallest set that I would consider as a basic Zoob starter set. Anything smaller will have very little scope for building large models or a good variety of models.

  • 125 classic Zoob pieces (standard size)
  • Instruction guides to build 25 creations
  • Oversize storage tub with resealable lid
  • Recommended age: 6 years and older
  • List price: $49.99 (from about $22 on Amazon)

However, it will make a great addition to expand an existing set.

Who would benefit from these sets?

As I have mentioned, these are all great sets for children who are new to building with the Zoob construction toys. The recommended are is for children who are 6 years and older. The pieces fit tightly together and can be difficult for smaller children to snap together and take apart.

The bigger set allows a few children to play together and build a few smaller models at the same time. They could also work together and build a bigger model, giving them a chance to practice some teamwork. Let’s not forget that this can also be a good way to spend some family time together.

In conclusion

My top choice is the biggest of the 3 sets. It will offer the most building options for both small and large models. It will quite possibly become one of those toys that is often played with for weeks and months to come.

Do you agree with my choice, or would you start out with a smaller set? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts or experiences.

Have you heard of the Zoob set that offers challenges instead of guided building?

Hi Lesley. I like your post about these zoob construction toys for children as it can challenge their minds to create things from their imaginations using these zoob pieces. I agree with your choices here, and if I were to pick which one of the three I would choose, I’d also go for the biggest set. With it children can build a combination set by constructing big and small pieces together.

These zoob building toys are so different to the traditional block sets that they make a great change. The best part is the parts of the models being able to move after they have been put together.

These look a like such a brilliant fun toy.

I am looking for a gift for my 8 year old nephew and he loves building things so this looks like a great idea. The 500 piece set looks like a bit much for a gift but I will talk to his mum and maybe she can buy the Big set and I will get the 125 piece and a top up

    Thanks for the great review!

That is a good idea. Having more pieces to work with will really get his imagination going. I am sure that he will love them and spend many hours building all kinds of creatures and contraptions.
